“Use dry ice,” they said. “It’ll be easy,” they said.

It was, in fact, not easy. According to YouTube, the best way to remove sound deadening is with dry ice and rubbing alcohol. In all the videos I watched, they made it look so simple. Why do they still use tar to soundproof cars? This is by far the most unpleasant part of building a race car. Quick science lesson here: the alcohol is added to make the dry ice more spreadable because the freezing point of alcohol is lower than the temperature of the dry ice. Had I added water, it would have frozen instantaneously. However, in hindsight, I think I got a little excited with adding the alcohol, which made the ice melt too quickly. Oh well, playing with the dry ice was super fun while it lasted!

About Me

wmremove-transformed (3) (1)_edited.jpg

Hi! My name is Maya Brandt, and I am a senior at Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill. I love cars, robots, and horses! When I'm not at the track or in the lab with my FTC robotics team, you'll probably find me at the barn, on the ski slopes, or reading a book. My favorite book is The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.
